Henry James Haver Crissman — ceramicist, educator, co-founder of Ceramics School (Hamtramck). Born in Midland, MI. Lives at 2692 Carpenter Ave, Hamtramck 48212. BFA Craft, College for Creative Studies 2012. MFA Ceramics, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University 2015. MFA thesis: The Mobile Anagama — toured to Alfred, AMACO (Indianapolis), Northern Clay Center (Minneapolis), Montana State, Archie Bray Foundation. Also taught at Pewabic (2016-2018), Wayne State (2017-2018), Marygrove College (2017), Oakland Community College (2016), School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Fall 2019). Currently adjunct CCS (Craft & Materials Studies) and EMU. Studio Director at Wellsville Creative Arts Center (2015-2016). Resident Artist at Fortress Studios, Detroit (2010-2013). Greenwich House Pottery internship (2011). Three Kickstarters: Detroit Noborigama ($2,275, 2012), The Mobile Anagama ($3,106, 2014), Ceramics School ($35,595, 2019). 2012 NCECA Regina Brown Undergraduate Fellowship, 2014 NCECA Graduate Student Fellowship. Longtime collaborator with Hamilton Poe (multiple shows at Trinosophes). Told Ryan 'No, you need to go there tomorrow' about Ken Shenstone. His feedback became the Stull Atlas First Principle: 'Useful for Potters.' Philosophy: 'Ceramics as a means, not an end. Ceramics as a means of social, intellectual and creative emancipation.'
