Tom Phardel (b. 1950), American sculptor and ceramist born in Detroit to Sicilian immigrants. BFA Eastern Michigan University (Ypsilanti), MFA University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Chair of Ceramics Department at College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit for 30 years (1988-2018+), Emeritus Professor of Craft and Material Studies. Henry Crissman's department chair during BFA. Works in DIA, Dennos Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Wayne State. Exhibited at Pewabic ('Closing the Circle' 2014, joint show 1981), Popps Packing ('Inner Core' 2015), Trinosophes (Bonsai show 2014), Simone DeSousa Gallery. Co-curated 'Susanne Stephenson: Transfigurement' 2018 with Paul Kotula. Archie Bray Foundation resident. Ceramic mural for Detroit People Mover (1987). Mentored Potters Guild of Michigan 70th anniversary project (2021). Bonsai cultivator (30+ trees, 25 years), beekeeper. Based in Ann Arbor.
