Glaze specialist, educator. BA Music Columbia College (MO), BFA Alfred University, MFA University of Colorado. Professor of Ceramics at University of Nebraska-Lincoln 1995-2025 (retired May 2025). Creator of 'Pete's Clear' and 'Pete's Cranberry Red' — industry-standard glaze recipes reverse-engineered from Chinese Dynasty ceramics, found in virtually every university ceramics studio. Known for teapots and utilitarian ware. Visited Yixing (China) 1996. Visiting artist at 30+ universities, workshops at hundreds of ceramic centers. Regular Clay Times columnist ('As far as I know...'). Wrote for Ceramics Monthly, Studio Potter. Featured artist NCECA 2001. Juried Pewabic's 'On the Rocks' exhibition (Jan-Feb 2018) — 500+ entries, selected 200+. Gave lecture 'The Art of Drinking' at CCS Anderson Auditorium. Ryan met him at Pewabic during that show, gave him one of his minis. Hixson-Lied Professor of Ceramics 2008-2014. Chair of School of Art, Art History & Design 2011-2016. Taught Austin Coudriet's generation at UNL before retiring May 2025.
