Raku
About
Japanese-origin firing technique. Ware is removed from the kiln at bright red heat and rapidly cooled, often with post-firing reduction in combustible materials. American raku produces dramatic metallic lusters and crackle effects. Traditional Japanese raku (used in tea ceremony) involves a very different, more restrained aesthetic.
