Dame Lucie Rie (1902-1995). Austrian-born British studio potter. Known for exquisite thin-walled vessels, distinctive glazes with volcanic textures, and refined sgraffito decoration. Studied at Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. Fled to London 1938. Set up studio at Albion Mews. Taught at Camberwell School of Art. DBE 1991. Work in V&A, Met, MoMA. One of the most influential potters of the 20th century alongside Hans Coper and Bernard Leach.
